BOAT BOAT BOAT

Leaving his brothers behind, Catball tucked himself away in the Adventure Satchel alongside books and the computer and flip-flops, and was unceremoniously chucked in the back of the big guy's cute wife's wagon.  He rode in the dark, trying to keep quiet while listening to the Red Sox on the wagon's radio.  His little catball heart was pounding with anticipation, wondering where his humans were unwittingly whisking him away to.

Finally, they arrived at their destination for the night, the big guy's cute wife's family's house on the Cape.  Catball had been there before and was somewhat comforted by the knowledge that he was somewhere familiar and yet different.  The Adventure Satchel was full of beachy things and he figured there would be some seaside fun to be had.

While the humans went inside to sleep, Catball emerged from the satchel with tired eyes looking for a snuggly spot to curl up in for the night.

He found his favorite spot, the clean laundry hamper, in the wagon next to him, and punched out for the night.

He was awoken by the concussive slams of car doors as the wagon chugged to life.  "Daylight already?" said Catball, "I feel like I just closed my eyes, and already there's more adventure afoot!"  He was puzzled, though, because unlike typical beachy trips, the humans had not emptied out the car of their everyday, non-beach-frolicky stuff to leave behind.  "Where are we headed," he wondered quietly, "with all these things and a little secret catball amongst it all?  And worst of all, how will I get back into the Adventure Satchel to keep my sneaky sneaky secret?"

They drove for miles and miles, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, until they finally stopped for good.  The people popped out of the car, came around to the back, and opened the hatch.  Catball froze, trying to blend in to the hamper next to a tiger-striped bit of cloth.

"Hey, honey, look, it's Catball!"  The cute wife's face lit up as she looked into Catball's big green eyes, pointed at him and smiled.  "I didn't know you brought Catball with you."

The big guy replied, "I didn't--are you sure you didn't bring him, honey?"

"Perhaps he knew that we were going on an adventure and wanted in on it.  You know what they say about this breed."

"'Catballs like adventures,' right?"

"Right.  C'mere, little guy!"  Relieved, Catball shimmied out of the hamper and into the cute wife's cupped hands.  She squeezed him as she said, "This is a better place for you, come along.  You'll still be our secret."

Catball was relieved that the jig was up.  "Now I will be able to adventure out in the open with my family," he thought, "this is much better than skullduggery.  Now just where am I?"

Catball saw a boat.

"That is a large boat," he thought.  Stowed back into the cute wife's green purse ("Matches my eyes, so fashionable!" he thought), they boarded the boat with a bunch of other people, some with dogs, some with sunglasses, all looking excited like happiness was waiting for them.  The humans walked around to the top deck of the boat, plunked down, and let Catball out to take a look around.  As they did so, the engines growled to life, and the whole world started to rock a little and start to glide by.

Catball wanted to take a look around at the remarkable scene--he'd never been on a boat before and the dry world looked adorable from the deck of the ship.  "Be careful up there, Catball," said the big guy.  "If you fall we will not be able to save you and there are sharks."

Atop the ship, the wind blew strongly, starching out the flag at the top.  A whirly helicoptery dealie whirled like a helicopter to no end.

Soon, new land was visible--it seemed that the boat had reached its destination.  Other boats of different shapes and sizes were already there, so they must have known something good about this place.

"Time to disembark, Catball, let's get our stuff and go!"  The big guy and his cute wife gathered all their stuff, and let Catball back into the Adventure Satchel.  "Get excited, little buddy, there's new things to see and do!"
